David Eveleth, PhD, Executive Chairman of RareSight, has more than 30 years of commercial and scientific experience in ophthalmology, neuroscience and regenerative medicine.  He currently serves on the board of several early-stage companies and consults for biotech and academic organizations. 

As the founder and former CEO of Trefoil Therapeutics, Inc., a clinical-stage biotech company, David led the discovery of Trefoil’s lead investigational candidate, TTHX1114, for the treatment of corneal endothelial dystrophies and conditions via intracameral injection. At Trefoil, David raised approximately $50 million and advanced TTHX1114 through a successful Phase 2 clinical trial.

Previously, David spent 16 years at Pfizer where he led the Ophthalmology Medicines Development Group, a franchise that realized peak annual sales of $1.7 billion. During his tenure, he and his team achieved the approval and launch of Macugen for AMD and advanced Macugen’s Phase 3 program and regulatory submission for diabetic macular edema (outside the USA). He shaped Pfizer’s ophthalmology strategy through major reorganizations, a merger with Wyeth, and the development of a collaborative R&D model—ultimately tripling the franchise’s revenue.

David joined Pfizer through its acquisition of Pharmacia, where he was Senior and Executive Director.  At Pharmacia, he led approvals for Xalatan as a first line agent, Xalacom and Xalatan/Xalatan Ease, and contributed to Healon and CeeOn/Tecnis product development. Prior to this, he held senior scientific and leadership roles at Bayer (Deputy Director and Licensing Officer) and Cortex Pharmaceuticals, where he worked as a Senior Scientist.

Throughout his career, David has been involved in or has led eight IND submissions, multiple new drug approvals and two medical device approvals. His leadership spans drug development, medical affairs, business development, and portfolio strategy. He was a Bank of America/Giannini Foundation fellow prior to joining industry. 

David earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Connecticut and his PhD in Biology from the University of California. He was a Bank of America/Giannini Foundation postdoctoral fellow prior to joining industry.
